Ivory Coast, the current champions, and Equatorial Guinea, have now qualified for the 2025 Africa Cup without having to play by benefiting from the results obtained by their rivals in their respective groups.
Ivory Coast, who won the title in February 2024 as hosts, by beating Nigeria in the final 2-1, they ensured a top two finish in group G after a draw between Chad and Sierra Leone (1-1). Surprisingly, this match was played in Abidjan, capital of Ivory Coast, as Chad is one of the 18 countries that cannot host international matches due to the poor condition of their stadiums.
Ivory Coast added 9 points, Zambia 7, while Sierra Leone (5) and Chad (3) cannot catch up as they have only one match left.
The same thing happened in group E. Liberia beat Togo (1-0) in Monrovia, a result that qualified Equatorial Guinea, with 7 points, for the Africa Cup for having a better specific average with Liberia, third with 4, when it has just one game left to play. Togo, last with 2, had options but were cleared. Algeria (12 points) is already classified.
The first two of the 12 groups qualify for the final stage of the Africa Cup, which will take place in Morocco from December 21, 2025 to January 14, 2026.
Including Equatorial Guinea and Ivory Coast, There are already ten qualified teams joining hosts Morocco, Algeria, Cameroon, Angola, Burkina Faso, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt and Senegal.
