The sinner can now be eliminated from one of the ten options at the ATP Finals

Date:

The Italian Jannik Sinner, world number one, leading the Ilie Nastase Group of the ATP Finals in Turin 2024 in the absence of a matchday today, Wednesday, which closes against the Russian Daniel Medvedevaround 8:30 pm

Both will know what they need to do to make it to the semifinals of the tournament, which will be played on Saturday, going through the reverse order of classification with the top two in the John Newcombe Group, along with Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev and Casper Ruud with options.

Sinner is still not mathematically classified despite his two wins in two sets, against the Australian Alex de Minaur and the American Taylor Fritzwhich opens the day at 2 pm.

There are ten possible combinations officially handled by the ATP as final group classification scenarios, and in only one does Sinner risk missing out on the semis. It would be a historic blow because of how difficult it is.

He had to lose in straight sets against Medvedev after Fritz also beat De Minaur in straight sets. Then there will be a triple tie in between Sinner, Medvedev and Fritz which will be decided by percentage of games, as they are tied at 2-1 in winning matches and 4-2 in sets.

Of those 10 choices, Sinner would also be first in 7, which would be 8 if the triple tie noted he was the best in games won and lost. Out of five his runner-up was definitely Taylor Fritz.

Everything indicates that Sinner will be a semi-finalist, with Fritz depending on himself to quickly close the calculations if he beats De Minaur.

The 10 ATP possibilities are:

1. Sinner 1st and Fritz 2nd. Sinner beat Medvedev and Fritz beat De Minaur.

2. Medvedev 1st and Sinner 2nd. Medvedev beat Sinner and De Minaur beat Fritz.

3. 1st Sinner, 2nd triple tie. The sinner won in 2 sets against Medvedev and De Miñaur in two against Fritz. Second place was decided by the percentage of games between all but Jannik.

4. Sinner 1st and Fritz 2nd. The sinner won in 2 sets against Medvedev and De Miñaur in 3 against Fritz.

5. Sinner 1st and Medvedev 2nd. Medvedev won 3 and De Minaur won 2.

6. Sinner 1st and Fritz 2nd. Sinner wins 3 and De Minaur wins 3.

7. Triple tie Sinner, Medvedev and Fritz for first and second place, decided by % of games if Medvedev wins 2 sets and Fritz also wins 2 sets.

8. Medvedev 1st and Sinner 2nd. Medvedev beat Sinner in 2 and Fritz beat De Minaur in 3

9. Sinner 1st and Fritz 2nd. Medvedev beat Sinner in 3 sets, Fritz beat De Minaur in 2.

10. Sinner 1st and Fritz 2nd. Medvedev beat Sinner in 3 sets, Fritz beat De Minaur in 3.
