Mark Tur: "I look forward to the World Cup, I dream of a medal"

Date:

Marc Turwho finished fourth in the last Olympic Games in Tokyo, just nine seconds from the bronze medal in the 50 -kilometer walk, is “excited and eager” to face the World Championships in Eugene (United States), where he dreams of winning. he fought for a medal in Japan just a year ago.

In recent times, the Balearic walker (Santa Eulalia del Río, Ibiza, 1994) has been recognized both for his sporting facet and for the amounts sent out of the sport.

Last April he was awarded the Best Athlete of 2021 award by the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation.

His last recognition came from the Higher Sports Council, which awarded him the Royal Order of Sports Merit for his “commitment to equality” within the framework of the ‘Equals in Sports’ strategy and LGTBI + Pride Day.

Q: The great goal this season is the World Championships in Eugene, where you will compete in 35 kilometers. How do you deal with it?

A: On June 27 we will go to the United States. We will be doing a concentration three weeks before the 35 km competition, which is just a month from now, on July 24. We will be going to Colorado, to Boulder, one of the meccas of world athletics. The first week is for adaptation and the next two will reach the best possible peak.

Q: How has your life changed during this time since the Games?

A: This is my second World Cup, I am 2019 in Doha. This time was difficult because I could not adapt to the fast pace of 35 kilometers, but in any case I looked forward to it and with great enthusiasm. It’s a World Cup and after what happened in Japan I’m very motivated. I hope I can show all the work I have done.

Q: Beyond the distance, is there a big difference from 50 to 35 kilometers?

A: This is a huge change. It seems like only 15 kilometers but they are faster. From a competition that was almost four hours became two and a half hours and eventually people doing 20 kilometers were better suited to 35. Many went up the distance, now there are more specialists and need that part of speed that I lack but which is where I work now.

Q: What do you expect in World Cup weather conditions?

A: In principle, there wasn’t any kind of problem about the heat and humidity of the final competitions, both in Doha and in Tokyo. Eugene is having a great time for the time of year we’re going, we’re expecting about 20 degrees in the races and it’s not going to be a factor. One factor to consider is adapting to the changing weather that has affected me so much in Japan. Also came in best shape on the main day at h time.

Q: Are you dreaming of a medal?

A: Of course yes. I train for it. It’s a bit different year because of adaptation, there are still things that need to be improved, but when you come out of the championship like that you come out to win and you have to give one hundred percent. Then destiny will tell you where you should be and where you will be placed. I will go with all my desire to be there going forward.

Q: After the World Cup is the European. Are we going to take him to Munich?

A: Yes, that’s the idea. This is a good opportunity to get a medal but in any case the main thing is the World Cup. I look at Eugene first and then I start thinking about Munich.
