Reece James and injuries: the never ending story

Date:

If there’s any footballer today who isn’t having luck with injuries, it’s this one Reece James. The Chelsea captain suffered another setback in his professional career in a new one damage in the hamstringswhich will leave him out of the next Premier League match against Leicester City.

The ‘blues’ right back was already injured for the same reason last season, in fact, he was not on the pitch for 29 meetings because of his time under the operating room. This season he was also absent from the start of the national championship until the end of October. James re-entered the squad against Liverpool as a starter after a year, although luck was on his side for just one month.

The 24-year-old defender suffered 20 damage in less than 5 years at the English club, the total is missing 129 official matches, which equates to 44% since his arrival at Chelsea in 2019. James has only played 162 games out of a possible 291.

The team coach, Enzo Marescahas warned that this new injury is not permanent and he hopes the player will be available again after the Conference League.

“We only have one injured player and that’s Reece, who unfortunately felt a little something in training two days ago and we don’t want to take any risks over the weekend,” said Maresca.

“It’s a muscle problem, in the hamstrings. He will be out this weekend, but I hope he can come back soon,” commented the coach.

After a long history of endless injuries, the coach stressed that it is difficult to recover physically and mentally when he has returned many times, which is why he wants to develop a plan with his technical staff to reduce physical load accumulated by the player
