“Call me naive, but I’m the right person”

Date:

The countdown to see the debut Ruben Amorim as coach of Manchester United is about to end. The Portuguese coach, who arrived from Sporting de Portugal after paying his clause during this national team break, will make his debut on Sunday against Ipswich (5:30 pm). Its premiere will be a way to leave the ‘time of the Ten Hags’ to begin the ‘time of the Amorim’.

Manchester United is thirteenth in the table and far from the top positions. The vote for the young 39-year-old coach is important, but he is convinced to move the situation forward. Of course, at first try to avoid the comparison with José Mourinho.

“The Portuguese coaches have shown that we can be the best in the world, but I’m different from Mourinho. I remember that time and you saw Mourinho and he thought he could win everything. But it’s not the same situation. He is European champion, I am not,” said Amorim this Friday in his first press conference.

”Football is different now and I think I’m the ideal person for this moment. I’m a boy and I try to use it to help my players. “His boys were players like Lampard, now it’s different.”

The Portuguese confirmed that Mourinho sent him a message when he signed for United and he told him it was a great club with good people. “He’s right. Now we’re building a new club and I’m a different person. I hope I can teach the players something different. This is the best club in England and we want to win, that’s all.”

What can you expect from a football perspective?

One of the questions that Manchester United fans have is whether or not they will see a defense of three centre-backs and two wing-backs. This was one of the keys to Amorim’s success in Portugal, but the Red Devil squad was not built on that idea. For this reason, the coach pointed out that beyond the use of one game system or another, one aspect to clearly improve is possession of the ball and running back more and better.

Another key aspect is migration policy, where he hopes to play an important role in decisions. “I want to be important there because I know how I want to play. I think we have to work on it together, but the coach has to have the final say. When everything is settled, we will be able to buy and sell players .”
