The Formula 1 has announced the formal introduction of a letter of Diversity and Inclusion which was agreed upon by the ten teams, the organization itself and the International Automobile Federation (FIA), which commits to “create, support and implement actions, measures and results, to develop a more diverse and inclusive sport.
“The Formula 1 recognizes the importance of diversity in introducing new perspectives and ideas, and driving change, culture and business results. And although it is an environment of intense competition, it is recognized that the charter is designed to make this a reality and produce positive and lasting results,” he explained in a statement.
To do this, it is committed to fulfilling four pillars: attract, retain, create and engage; with a mission to identify and remove barriers to attract and retain a rich diversity of people in their workplaces by improving the way they work and engaging with partners to drive change.
In this sense, they agree to appoint people to jointly develop and monitor the work in this regard, meet periodically to review progress and collaborate on the goals of that charter; among other things using jargon-free language, working together to resolve any issues and acknowledging that they may need support in tracking and following through on those steps.
“Our sport is rightly recognized for its elite performance and innovation, and it is clear to us that the only way to maintain and improve exceptional standards is to welcome diversity of thought, ideas and experiences . We are all committed to making our sport more open and diverse,” said Stefano Domenicali, president and CEO of Formula 1.
“The diversity of motor sport is essential to its continued success. By ensuring equal opportunities and increasing accessibility and joining our commitment to uphold this charter, we will drive change,” said Mohammed Ben Sulayem, president of the FIA.
