the swiss Dominique Aegerter (Dynavolt Intact GP) got victory from the pole in the first of two weekend races at the TT Assen Circuit valid for the FIM MotoE World Cup by dominating Brazilian Eric Granado in a heart-stopping race finish (LCR E-Team) who finished with 72 thousandths and the Italian Mattia Casadei (Pons Racing 40), with 81 thousandths.
Starting at the pole didn’t help Dominique Aegerter take the lead and he was overtaken by Matteo Ferrari (Felo Gresini MotoE) who set the pace from the first of eight laps and took Swiss and Eric Granado with him.
All indicated that the battle for the podium was between them, despite the fact that Mattia Casadei and Miquel Pons (LCR E-Team) were not far from the podium positions. Casadei, however, climbed into gear with 6 laps to stick to Aegerter’s wheel, which Granado soon caught up with.
When the Brazilian retaliated against the Swiss, he did not hesitate to follow Ferrari, who had until then been comfortable riding in the first place. Granado outboxed the Italian and hit, but that match allowed Aegerter to get close to them and also overtook the Italian who suffered a series of fears and dropped to the top-5 reached by Casadei and Marc Alcoba.
With two laps remaining, when Casadei, Granado and Aegerter started fighting, the Swiss got the win in a photo finish and the worst unemployed was Marc Alcoba, who went to the ground with two curves to cross the goal line.
At the podium gates will finish Ferrari followed by Héctor Garzó (Tech3 E-Team), with Miquel Pons (LCR E-Team) finishing 6th.
After an injury sustained at Le Mans and not diving into the Mugello race, two-time world champion Jordi Torres (Pons Racing 40) returned to his MotoE this weekend. Despite severe discomfort in his leg and fatigue, Torres completed a good career, setting his own pace to cross the finish line in ninth position, 5 “347 from the lead.
With this new victory, Aegerter remains the leader of the Electric Cup with 148 points, 34 more than Granado and 42 more than Ferrari. Casadei (90) and Pons (79) completed the top-5.
