A study shows the increasing popularity of Formula 1 in the Middle East

Formula 1 has great support in the Middle Eastwith younger female fans being the fastest-growing demographic globally, according to data released Tuesday by NielsenSports.

The Persian Gulf region has four races, one more than the United States, in a season that ends this weekend at Yas Marina, in Abu Dhabi, where McLaren and Ferrari are fighting for the constructors’ title.

The numbers show that Women’s interest increased by 11% compared to last year in Saudi Arabiaand 10% among men, with the greatest growth in the age group of 50 to 69 years.

Jeddah hosts the race for the first time in 2021 and Saudi energy giant Aramco sponsors Aston Martin, as well as the sport as a whole.

“New categories of sponsors are opening up. We are seeing a significant change in brands participating in the sport attracted by changing fan demographics,” said Nielsen Sports Global CEO Jon Stainer.

According to Nielsen, one in four of the 46,000 people surveyed in 37 international markets claimed to have become an F1 fan after watching a documentary series from Netflix “Drive for a living”.

The data showed that 41% of F1 fans are womenand The fastest growing group is 16 to 24 year olds.

Nielsen said F1 is now the most popular annual sports seriesincluding more than 750 million fans worldwide. Global interest from 2021 up 5.7%or 50 million people.
