Italy was confirmed as No. 1 in the Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup year-end nation rankings, published by International Tennis Federation (ITF) following the finals of the same competition last month.
The the women’s and men’s teams were declared World Champions after their respective wins in Malaga last November. J.Asmine Paolini and Lucia Bronzetti led the group of women in their fifth Billie Jean King Cup windefeated Slovakia in the final on November 20. Just four days later, the men’s team became the first country since 2013 to successfully defend the Davis Cup titleincluding Jannik Sinner and Matteo Berrettini led the Italians to victory over the Netherlands.
Italy’s victory in the Davis Cup in 2023 (its second title, having won the first in 1976) allowed the country rose to No. 1 ranking for the first time since Davis Cup country rankings were introduced in 2001.
By retaining the title this year, the Italians extended their lead at the top of the standings, ahead of Australia at number 2 and Canada at number 3. Spain maintains the tenth position while Argentina (11), Chile (16) and Brazil (17) make up the Top 20.

In the ranking of countries in the Billie Jean King Cup, which was introduced in 2002, Italy’s success this season allows it to start its third period in the number 1 positionafter being occupied first place between November 2009 and April 2012 and between November 2013 and April 2014.
The other four Italian Billie Jean King Cup titles were won in 2006, 2009, 2010 and 2013. Last year’s world champions fell to second place and the Czech Republic to third.
