First the road and then the cyclocross. This is the conclusion that can be drawn from the announcement made by Team Visma-Bike Lease regarding the racing program of one of its star cyclists, the Belgian Wout Van Aert. In this sense, the triple CX world champion will only compete in six cyclocross races this season, and one of them is the Benidorm event: Mol, Loenhout, Gullegem, Dendermonde, Benidorm and Maasmechelen.
“Cyclocross remains my passion, which is why I enjoy returning to it every winter,” Van Aert said in a statement released by his team. It will be a cyclocross season that I will tackle just for the love of this sport, but with modest ambitions after my accident at La Vuelta and my knee injury, it is important to make the most of the time I have to prepare for the road season. cyclocross fit nicely into that plan, but the schedule was more limited than in previous years.
In the first appointments of the CX season (Loenhou, Gullegem and Dendermonde) Van Aert is not expected to perform at his peak level, but he hopes to be at a higher level in the following two races: Benidorm and Maasmechelenon January 19 and 25.
