Less than a week left before the celebration of RFEF General Meeting which has to elect the next president of the football establishment for the next four years. And what will appear on the shortlist in between Rafael Louzan, Sergio Merchan and Salvador Gomar. The three have been talking to all members of the assembly since last Thursday while, in parallel, an all-out war is going on between them. In this case between the most similar candidacy of Louzán and Merchán against Gomar.
In fact, the Electoral Commission made it official last night that on December 6, the last day according to the calendar to appeal the provisional proclamation of candidates, an appeal was filed by Rafael Louzán Abal and Sergio Merchán Guay against the agreement of December 4, 2024 where it was decided to provide a 24-hour correction period on certain guarantees. Specifically, 13 endorsements, of which 12 were ultimately accepted and only one from the Navarro Federation was rejected.
Correction according to which 51 guarantees were recognized for Rafael Louzán, 23 for Sergio Merchán and 25 for Salvador Gomar. They are also appealing the clarification requested on Thursday by Sergio Merchán, which was rejected by the Electoral Commission.
The appeal presented by the president of the Galician and Extremadura Federation states verbatim that “in which it was decided to grant a period of correction to certain guarantees; consolidated compared to the subsequent agreement of the same date (minute 18 ) to repeat the correction period granted , declare the correction of part of the false endorsements and carry out the declaration of candidacies for the Presidency of the RFEF and, jointly, in the face of the agreement that reject; clarification/completion of the previous agreement (minute 19), before the Administrative Court of Sports (TAD).” We will now look at what decision was adopted by the TAD and if it could affect the endorsements presented and important for the candidacy of Salvador Gomar.
CSD has not yet reported Louzán to TAD
At the same time, and as the MD found out, the CSD has not yet reported Rafael Louzán to the TAD, understanding that he is not yet an official candidate for the presidency of the RFEF. When it becomes official, they will raise it, understanding that he cannot stand for election because he has a pending criminal case, even though it has been suspended pending a decision from the Supreme Court in February of next year. The government considers that the RFEF Laws prohibit the Galician president from going out. The issue is that, and according to RFEF electoral regulations, there is no need to make any proclamation of candidates. They have been recognized since last Wednesday the Electoral Commission accepted the correction of guarantees just reported.
