Betriu is back after his injury to the Italian GP

Date:

Two months after breaking four ribs, Jaume Betriu from Lleida finally made his debut in the double round of the EnduroGP World Championship in Carpineti, finishing 22nd and 20th scratch, and 7th twice in his category (E3), accusing the lack of speed.

“It has been a difficult and very difficult weekend. Returns after injuries are always difficult, and I have yet to really find the feeling. I’m physically okay, but I don’t have the spark I should have. I lack racing hours and have the confidence to get the speed I usually have, but this is normal after all ”, Betriu commented on his return from the transalpine event.

Betriu had to face a huge list of opponents in the Italian GP who, unlike him, had no delay at the start of the season. One from Coll de Nargó, who reappeared 15 days ago at the Spanish Enduro Championship with very good feelings and two victories at E3, saw how the competitive level of the World Championship did not forgive him for the forced stop he had to pass. to weld and join the ribs he broke while training in late April.

In fact, his quick return to the bike after a severe recovery is the best news for the Catalan rider who, however, has suffered from a lack of speed. From that Super Test on Friday it was clear that it was a sacrificed career for Betriu, where more than the result, the important thing was to regain the sensations.

In that first special, WP rider Eric Augé was displaced to 18th scratch position, almost 5 seconds behind the first, and on Saturday he had to struggle to get close to the top 20, although he had some flashes like the fourth in general. position –and second of E3– in the first step by Cross Test. Finally, he had to settle for the end of the day with 22nd position, 4 minutes and 4 seconds behind the winner in EnduroGP, and with seventh place in the E3 category where he was competing with his KTM 500 EXC-F. “I tried to be at my level, but it cost me a lot. The terrain was also not easy for me because of the type of ride I rode ”, explained the man from Coll de Nargó.

In the second round, held on Sunday, the Spanish rider was able to establish records within the top 15 and top 20, but the inactivity of these months caused him injury and he suffered two crashes that delayed him to 20th place overall and seventh at E3. However, he was able to limit the difference in the winner to 2’46 ”, a mark that was better than the previous day.

“Yesterday I felt a little better. I was making progress on some specials, especially in the Extreme and the Cross Test, but on the second lap I fell off the stage, which was quite long and very dangerous. My finger got stuck under the steering wheel and I had a bad injury that would have healed well for Portugal. Then I crashed again, this time with Extreme, and I lost about 20-30 seconds. On the third lap I felt tired and there was nothing I could do ”, he confessed.

Jaume Betriu will have little time to prepare for his next test at the EnduroGP World Championship, as by the end of this week he will have to wear his overalls again in the fourth round of the championship, to be held in Coimbra-Souselas for GP From Portugal.
