Rafael Nadal22-time Grand Slam winner, 14 of them at Roland Garros, will have a documentary series about his life and sports careerwith “unprecedented access” to his return to the slopes in 2024, the time of his retirement, which will be produced by Netflix and Skydance Sports and it has no title or confirmed release date yet.
“The docuseries will focus on Nadal’s stellar career, as well in his life off the beaten trackwhich presents never-before-seen material from his personal archive and through a unparalleled access to the tennis starhis family and his close circle of coaches and mentors,” Netflix noted in its statement.
The Oscar nominee and Emmy winner Zach Heinzerling (Stolen Youth, Cutie and the Boxer, McCartney 3,2,1) directed the docuseries, still no titleproduced by David Ellison, Jesse Sisgold, Jason Reed and Jon Weinbach for Skydance Sports.
“I never thought I would do something like thisbut I received a call from David Ellison and his words along with the project they put in front of me convinced me to do it. You can see what my life has been like throughout my career and especially during the season This last year has not been easy. You can also see how my life and career have developed over the years,” said Rafa Nadal.
“I’m sure the result, the docuseries, will happenIt will be amazing and will be seen all over the world.. I thank David Ellison and the Skydance team for creating and believing in this project. “Rafael Nadal is one of the greatest and most influential figures in sport. We are excited to present their extraordinary story to our members, offering a intimate view of your trip until he became a legend now,” he explained.
For the project, Netflix is partnering with the company Skydance Sportsmade in 2021, and where has already worked for other projects such as documentaries on NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the Dallas Cowboys dynasty.
