Fatih Terimformer coach of the soccer team Turkeyannounced Thursday that it had signed a contract worth 1.6 million dollars (1.5 million euros) to coach Saudi club Al-Shabab for six months, replacing the Portuguese coach Vitor Pereira.
Terim told state broadcaster TRT that his arrival in the Saudi team could be accompanied by the transfer of no more than one player, although he indicated this was unlikely.
The Turkish coach, who is 71 years old, has managed his country’s soccer team four times, the last between 2013 and 2017.
He trained in four different seasons Galatasaray, a club that considers him a living legend, and he also manages clubs such as Fiorentina and Milan.
Last May he was fired from Greek Panathinaikos after just six months in charge of the club, where he achieved fourteen wins, six draws and six defeats.
Pereira coached Al-Shabab until the 19th, when he announced his signing for British Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Al-Shabab is one of the oldest clubs in Saudi Arabia and is currently sixth in that country’s first league, thirteen points behind the leader, Karim Benzema-led Al Ittihad.
