A few weeks before the start of the new cycling season, the Burgos BH adds a new force to its team, adding a more international character to it. The Japanese Tomoya Koyoma (Matsubara, 1998) becomes the purple team’s ninth signing for a 2025 campaign where it already has 23 confirmed cyclists. He is a fast rider with six years of experience in the UCI Continental category, the last of them in Europe. Last season he competed in Team Vorarlberg from Austria and the Vini Monzon-Savini Due-OMZ from Italy.
Koyama began competing in cycling in high school, when he switched from track and field, a sport he had practiced until then, to mountain biking. After several periods of training and growth in the lower categories, he arrived in the UCI platoon with the help of Interpro Cycling Academy, where he rode the Tour of Japan for the first time. In 2020 and 2021, teams are included Hincaphie LEOMO and Uncle Sagamihara respectively, focused their efforts on the Japanese calendar, as the covid-19 pandemic severely limited the participation of Asian teams in international races.
Its premiere abroad came exactly in Spain, thanks to the team JAVA Kiwi Atlanticwith whom he argued trials such as Mallorca Challenge or the Arrábida Classic. Although it was in 2023 when he finished his first great season, debuting in high-level races. with the team Global 6 Cycling arguing the Tour of Britain, Tour of Türkiye, Tour of Asturias or Volta a Portugal, highlights the top-10 he achieved in the final stage of Istanbul tourl. In 2024 he took a step forward, completing several stages of testing Turkey, Romania or Bulgaria.
Tomoya Koyama: “First of all I want to thank Burgos BH for giving me this opportunity. I have spent several years racing in Europe, with cyclists from Spain and Spanish-speaking countries, so it is very special for me to join a professional Spanish team. I like to compete in sprints, but also help my teammates, so I hope to give my best. My goal is to participate in more races and work for the team. “I also want to be a national champion.”
