The Cuban Boxing Federation (FCB) described it Tuesday as “serious indiscipline” is the “illegal exit” attempt of Olympic gold medalist and world champion Andy Cruz.
“The fact, which classifies as serious lack of discipline in the regulations of our sport, will generate a corresponding review, which we will inform in a timely manner,” FCB reported quoted by the official sports portal Jit.
The federation note does not offer further details about the aforementioned “illegal exit” attempt.
Cruz did not participate in training sessions before the tournament in Playa Girón -the most important discipline in the country-, where there was speculation about his possible abandonment of Cuba.
A week ago, FCB president Alberto Puig de la Barca pointed out that the boxer was not in the eastern city of Camagueey, where the tournament was held.
“Before, his apparent demotivation conditioned him not to be part of the team to represent us in the debut of Domadores de Cuba on the professional circuits, ”the sports entity said today.
The 26-year-old Olympic champion was not part of the Domadores team poster that debuted in professional boxing on May 20 in the Mexican city of Aguascalientes.
On his record, he stands out for first place at the Pan American Games in Toronto in 2015 and in Lima in 2019; a gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics -held in 2021 due to the pandemic- and at the Belgrade World Boxing Championship, in 2021 as well.
One of the main reasons why many of these athletes left Cuba was the economy during the severe crisis.
