Tosha Schareina He is the great Spanish hope for Dakar 2025. He was in last year’s edition but a crash in stage 1 forced him to leave. That is why in this new venture the Valencian wants to take it more calmly. So far in the Prologue he finished fifth, less than half a minute behind the winner, Daniel Sanders.
“We all want to win, but when I started I saw that the Prologue was going to be very fast, with hidden gems. I would be lying if I said I didn’t give gas, but I was quite calm, and then I had a problem with public transport, They are making their route, and they need to get there safely, thinking about getting to the end because it will be a very long race. I think we are happy,” he said at the end of the first day.
In this edition, which will once again be held in Saudi Arabia, the first week is the most demanding of the 48-hour stage and the marathon stage. Therefore, there is no room for speculation and Schareina makes it clear.
“Be alive. No strategy, you have to give gas and try to do everything as fast as possible, because tomorrow will be reverse order, like the second stage, so no strategy is worth it, you have to give gas. and be as far behind as possible to go for those ahead. It is quite different from other years, when you have to attack in the second week, but now it’s a bit reversed, you have to attack in the first, the second is secure, but I want to start attacking”
Amazed by Canet
Schareina started on the right foot but Edgar Canet did better. The 19-year-old rider made his Dakar debut with an excellent third position on his KTM, impressing everyone despite his youth.
“I think I expected him to give a lot of effort, but it’s no excuse to say that he had a bit better terrain than us, I’m very happy for him because of how he did it. You never know, I’m happy to have two Spaniards there, besides Loren [Santolino]so I’m happy because more people are coming from the quarry,” Schareina expressed in conclusion about the one from La Garriga.
