Sir Alex Fergusonincluding former and current players of Manchester United number David Beckhamthey paid tribute to Kate Phippsformer receptionist of the club, at his funeral yesterday, Monday. Phipps, who worked at the club for 56 years, died aged 85 on December 5. The service took place at Manchester Cathedral and was attended by Ferguson, Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes, Roy Keane and former employees of the club.
Many members of the Manchester United community visited him before his death. Sharing memories, Ferguson said Phipps enjoyed United’s recent 2-2 draw against Liverpool at Anfield, which he attended. “Good result yesterday (on Sunday). Great. Kath loves it,” he said.
