Real Madrid has officially started the electoral process to elect a new President and a new Board of Directors for the elections which, if held, will take place in the middle of this year 2025.
“The president, having heard the Board of Directors held today, and in accordance with article 38 section b of the Social Laws of Real Madrid CF, has asked the Electoral Board to initiate the procedure for calling elections for the President and Board of Directors, ” The white club issued an official statement after the meeting of the Board of Directors held today,
Barring a major surprise, Florentino Pérez will run again in the election to extend his mandate while waiting for other candidates to compete. In the elections of 2009, 2013, 2017 and 2021, the builder was proclaimed as the president of Real Madrid as he was the only candidate.
To see an election for the presidency of Real Madrid with more than one candidate, you have to go back to the 2006 election, months after Florentino Pérez resigned from the position due to factional disagreements.
Those elections were won by Ramón Calderón by a very narrow margin, winning only 246 votes against Juan Palacios. Juan Miguel Villar Mir, Lorenzo Sanz and Arturo Baldasano also attended those elections.
