Paolo Guerrero says goodbye after 20 years

The Peruvian striker Jose Paolo Guerreroleading scorer in the history of Peruannounced on Tuesday that he will end his international career after 20 years with the national team. “The national team needs new people, new faces. What people are asking for are new players, so let’s give the youngsters a chance,” said the 41-year-old player, who made his debut for the national team team on October 9, in press 2004 against Bolivia.

The match against Argentina on November 19 for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers (1-0 loss) will remain as the last match for Peru, where he played 125 games and scored 40 goals. After playing for Bayern Munich, Hamburg and Corinthians in particular, Guerrero currently plays for Alianza Lima club and participated in six Copa Américas and the World Cup in Russia in 2018.
