Guaita makes it easy for Rayo

Date:

Rayo Vallecano wants this 2025. Although only two, their games count for victory and in this one they have to give a part of thanks to Vicente Guaita, who failed with the two goals conceded by Celta (2- 1), which ended. with fewer players due to the absurd sending off of Marcos Alonso in stoppage time.

The presence of Monchi, Aston Villa’s sporting director, in the Vallecas stand is not anecdotal. The goal is closely followed by Ratiu and Óscar Mingueza, who looks like a January addition for Unai Emery and has the right game, maybe more.

Success comes in the details. Minimal and marked by the failures of a Celta that, despite not shining in its game, gets points. The start was premonitory with Guaita’s first mistake, with a bad release of his fists. The goalkeeper called for a foul but there was none and Embarba knew how to take advantage (5′). Rayo didn’t capitalize on that advantage despite starting the better and Celta, a little out of sorts and unable to find Fran Beltran, hit a play out of nowhere. Bamba runs into space, receives from Ilaix and puts it on a plate for Borja to score (26′).

It may have been a game of goals, but the goal was missed. Guaita seemed to make up for his mistake with two interventions on corner kicks made by Isi. It was easy for Leujene and a save on Unai López before the break, but he reappeared in the picture after the break. The contest was still tied when De Frutos received from Embarba and hit it at the short post, where it slipped past the Celta goalkeeper (63′). From then on, Giráldez’s men had all the colors but they were not tied. More for the heart than football.

Cárdenas is partly to blame. The Rayo goalkeeper, who came on for the injured Batalla, laid a good hand, especially one on Marcos Alonso, and accidentally took one in his face. The one that was really clear was Willot, who came on in the second half and had his hands off his head. I already had a couple when the last one came. Celta went one down due to a red card for Marcos Alonso, who entered the field without permission and saw a second yellow card, alone and with everything in his favour, he headed over the crossbar, letting the points disappear
