The Nigerian Ebenezer Akinsanmiro, player owned by Inter of Milan on loan at Sampdoria, a Serie B team, was cautioned and replaced on Sunday after clashing with Brescia fans after receiving racist insults for most of the first half.
The player informed the referee when he saw the insults and racist chants and, from the public address system, Brescia asked the fans to stop, as established by protocol.
A year ago the same thing happened to the French Mike Maignan Milan’s goalkeeper, in a match against Udinese that was eventually delayed due to constant chanting.
But in the 33rd minute of the match, when Sampdoria scored a goal, Akinsanmiro responded to the insults by approaching the area of the Brescia fans who let them go imitating a monkey.
The referee admonished the midfielder at that moment for stirring up the stands and, a few minutes later, in the 41st minute, the coach of Sampdoria, the Italian. Leonardo Semplici chose to change to his player.
For now, the racist episode has no consequences for Brescia. ‘Samp’, for its part, published on ‘X’ a message of support for its player: “With you”, accompanied by a picture of Akinsanmiro and the label “Leave Racism Out.”
