The goalkeeper of Bayern Munich, Mala Grohsreturned to training yesterday after being treated for a malignant tumor, the German club reported yesterday Tuesday. Grohs took an indefinite leave of absence in November to focus on his recovery and Bayern extended his contract in a show of support.
Bayern announced yesterday that the 23-year-old goalkeeper “has completed parts of the team’s training and will work in the coming weeks on his next steps (on the road) back to competition.” Grohs wrote on Instagram in December that he had undergone surgery and posted a photo of a scar on his neck.
He joined Bayern in 2019 and played in all of Bayern’s Champions League games this season before leaving. Grohs was called up to the German national team last year, but had to withdraw due to tonsil surgery, so he has yet to make his senior international debut.
