Morales and Romero do not want any confusion at the 2030 World Cup Stadium in Gran Canaria

The Cabildo of Gran Canaria has taken an important step in the modernization of one of the island’s sporting emblems. As the president announced, Antonio Moralesa prestigious jury to choose the project that will transform the Gran Canaria Stadium.

The reform of the Gran Canaria Stadium is not only an investment in sports infrastructure, but a strategic project for the economic and social development of the island. This jury, is composed of architectural experts, engineers and civil society representativessuch as the Official College of Architects of Gran Canaria and the Official College of Civil, Canal and Port Engineers (Las Palmas Demarcation), among others, will evaluate the proposals presented by nine architectural firms.

One of the most notable aspects of this process is the guarantee that the UD Las Palmas can continue to use the stadium during construction. “It is important that the island group does not see its activity interrupted,” said Morales. In addition, special emphasis has been placed on citizen participation, ensuring that the final project meets the needs and expectations of fans and the entire society of Gran Canaria.

The Cabildo guarantees multi-year financing to ensure the implementation of the project in its entirety. The works are scheduled to start in 2025 and end in 2027, turning the Gran Canaria Stadium into a sporting and cultural reference on a national and international level.

Despite the information referring to the reduction in the number of venues for the 2030 World Cup, the Cabildo of Gran Canaria maintains the bet on the candidacy of the Gran Canaria Stadium. “Our project is among the best appreciated and we are convinced that FIFA will recognize the quality of our proposal,” said Morales.

The Cabildo of Gran Canaria wants to make this process an example of transparency and citizen participation. Through the Cabildo’s website and social networks, the population will be kept informed about development of works and the participation of all interested parties is encouraged.
