The Brazilian Corinthians denied racist acts committed by Argentine fans during the first leg of the Copa Libertadores round of 16 played by Boca Juniors in San Paulo (0-0). The incidents culminated in the arrest of three followers.
Three Boca Juniors fans were arrested Tuesday at the NeoQuímica stadium and remain at the disposal of Justice in the prison of the Police Delegation for the Repression of Sports Intolerance Crimes in the capital São Paulo, as confirmed by the Secretary of Public Security of Sao Paulo.
Two of Argentina’s supporters were arrested after being recorded imitating a monkey, while a third was arrested after giving a Nazi salute, according to local media.
Two followers will be released on bail
Two of the fans were charged with racial defamation and will be released after paying bail, while a third of them were charged with racism, according to the secretariat.
“These behaviors are intolerable,” the Corinthians insisted through its social networks.
“True to the history of its struggle, the Corinthians will once again file complaints as necessary, which we will always do, until it is no longer necessary,” he added.
Two months later
The events took place two months after a similar event also took place at the Corinthians stadium in a match against Boca Juniors played on April 26 in the group stage of the Copa Libertadores.
An Argentine fan was then arrested after imitating a monkey, an act in which he was accused of racial slander.
