The Greek long jumper Miltiadis Tentoglou is named Best Balkan Athlete of the Year 2024 on Friday. Tentoglou, 26 years old, oOlympic ro in Paris last yearis also the current world indoor champion and European champion. He got 61 votes and became first Greek athlete in 15 years to top the vote.
Second and third are Romanian swimmer David Popovici and Serbian NBA star Nikola Jokicrespectively. The results of the annual survey are published by the Bulgarian News Agency. A total of 38 athletes received votes.
The Bulgarian weightlifter Carlos Nasar shared fourth place with Serbian tennis player Novak Djokoviceight-time award winner.
The Balkan poll is traditionally conducted by the national news agencies of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia and Turkey.
With this award, Miltiadis Tentoglou replaced Novak Djokovic as the winner of the award.
