A sports betting case has hit European football again. A few days ago it happened to Kike Salas, a Sevilla player who is being investigated for allegedly forcing several warnings in the last games of last season. And now a similar situation is happening in Serie A.
In this case, the Udine prosecutor’s office opened an investigation into an alleged case of sports betting fraud in which Maduka Okoyea 25-year-old goalkeeper for Udinese, is the main suspect. Diego Giordano, the owner of a pizzeria frequented by the staff, will also be involved in the case.
‘Messaggero Veneto’ claims that the investigation began following a report received from the Snai betting house after seeing high-value bets related to the fact that Okoye saw a yellow card in the Lazio match – Udinese, who played it on March 11, 2024. In that match, Udinese’s goalkeeper was cautioned in the 64th minute for time wasting.
For obvious reasons, it is more complicated for a goalkeeper to force a yellow card without it being obvious than for a field player to do so. The case will continue to be investigated and the usual starting goalkeeper – who is now injured – faces a very heavy penalty.
