Ander Herrera: official greetings to Athletic and hello to Boca Juniors

Date:

Athletic’s second winter soap opera had its final point yesterday at the bureaucratic level. Its outcome, as it happened a few days ago with Álex Padilla, is well known, but both the red and white entity and Ander Herrera and Boca Juniors, his new club, decided to make it official early on friday

From Ibaigane, it was reported yesterday morning that “Athletic and Ander Herrera have reached an economic agreement to resolve the footballer’s contract.” A few hours later, the club published a video as a farewell to the former lion, who addressed the fans in red and white, and another at the time announcing his decision to go to Boca to his teammates and other professional from the red-and- white first team, along with José Ángel Iribar.

“I made this video to say goodbye to all of you. Give a brief review of how happy I have been here in two seasons, five and a half seasons, 189 games, many victories, finals, many cool moments, a title like the Copa del Rey after 40 years. It is an honor to be part of this institution, the most diverse club in the world because of its philosophy. I was not born muscular, but from now on a piece of my heart is. Eternally grateful,” said Ander Herrera, among other things.

“I’ve never had a locker room like this. This club is different and I really feel that way. The moment we become just another club, everything is screwed there. For me, it’s great to be with you,” the new Boca player encouraged Valverde and the other first team members behind closed doors.

The Bilbao Athletic midfielder’s official farewell day also, logically, included welcoming what is now his new club. Boca Juniors, in other words, has also edited its corresponding video with pictures and statements from its new signing.

“Dreams are meant to come true. Welcome Ander” and “How can we not love you, Ander? “La Bombonera is waiting for you” are some of the legends that appeared in the first videos of the xeneize club. Then, while hours pass, Herrera can also be seen congratulating Cavani, Marcos Rojo and Gago, his new coach, among others.

The native of Bilbao, who returned to Athletic in the summer of 2022, closed his time as a lion with a total of 189 games. So far this season, however, he has appeared in fourteen games, but only three as a starter, playing a total of 419 minutes. This 35-year-old player, who renewed last summer, ended his contract as a red and white player in June.
