TikTok will stop operating on January 19 unless Biden makes a ‘clear’ statement

Date:

The White House explained that the incoming Trump administration, which begins its second term next Monday, will be in charge of “taking the necessary actions.”

Audiovisual platform TikTok said on Friday it will stop operating in the United States from January 19 unless President Joe Biden’s administration makes a “clear” declaration, after the US Supreme Court approved the law determining its suspension.

“The statements issued today by both the Biden White House and the Department of Justice have failed to provide the necessary clarity and certainty to service providers who are critical to keeping TikTok available for more than 170 million Americans“, the company said in its social network account X.

In this way, they have warned that “unless the Biden administration immediately makes a definitive statement to satisfy the most critical service providers and guarantee that no measures will be applied, TikTok will unfortunately have to close on January 19”.

The US Supreme Court on Friday approved the law establishing the nationwide suspension of TikTok on January 19, accepting as valid the reasoning of US authorities, who consider the network a threat to the security of Americans.

The US government is demanding that TikTok cut all ties with its Chinese parent company ByteDance, recognizing that this relationship poses a threat to national security and to Americans, whose data could end up in the hands of the Asian power without consent.

Similarly, the White House explained that the incoming Trump administration, which begins its second term next Monday, 24 hours after the law takes effect, will be in charge of “taking the necessary actions” to expand the regulations to fit, ‘for a simple matter. of deadlines.”
