Italian sprinter Marcell Jacobs will not be able to compete this Thursday in the Diamond League in Stockholm (Sweden) due to gluteus discomfort.
“Since Wednesday, after training, Marcell has been feeling discomfort in his butt. We can’t risk running tonight,” Paolo Camossi, his coach, said in statements collected by the Italian Athletics Federation (FIDAL) .
The meeting in Stockholm was the last and final test for Jacobs before the World Championship in Eugene (Oregon, United States). The Italian, yes, participated last week in the Italian Championship and was crowned champion of the transalpine country, even with a time of more than 10 seconds, below his highest level.
“The important thing is that I was there because I had to compete. I was not satisfied with the weather, but the sensations, especially in the final, were good. Also, the wind did not help. Now I am going to Stockholm, where I will try to give of 100%”, the Olympic champion was declared at the end of the Italian competition.
However, the discomfort in his glute keeps him away from the slopes again and he will miss another new test which, added to the Eugene and Roma he also didn’t get, greatly aggravates his involvement throughout conditions before the World Cup – which will be played between July 15 and 24-, still includes Jacobs as one of the tournament’s great claims.
