Carlos Alcaraz and Alejandro Davidovich will compete this Friday to win the ninety -seven editions of the Copa del Rey at the facilities of Royal Recreational Club of Huelva.
Both played their roles as favorites and respectively prevailed Pablo Andujar and Pedro Martinez before a track number two filled with more than 2,300 people.
The Murcian tennis player, number 7 in the world, had to work hard to beat a contender Pablo Andújar (number 85), who he beat 7-6 (7-5) and 6-4 in an hour and forty minute play. For his part, Alejandro Davidovich, number 35 in the ATP rankings, had previously beaten Pedro Martínez (50 ATP) 6-2, 6-0 in 59 minutes of play.
The Alcaraz-Andújar duel is the most exciting and highest level. The match started evenly and didn’t leave that situation until the final result. Twelve games passed and both players held serve.
Alcaraz runs the ball hard with very powerful shots that Andújar can’t always return with the best guarantees, more comfortable with serving to find cracks in his rival’s game. Even in an exchange of drop shots on the net, he was able to get the win to a specialist like the one from The Palmar.
The duel was equal and very attractive for the public, who celebrated each of the opponents ’quality glitters with applause. Not an iota and became 6-6 to announce the ‘tie break’. Within it, equality continues to be the dominant trend.
Alcaraz was able to take a 5-2 lead with two very open rights, which Andújar could not reach, who responded with other high-quality shots to equal the five. Only bad luck in the tight shot prevented the champions ’clash from dragging and Alcaraz won the first set 7-6 (7-5) in an hour and seven minutes show.
The second set was another story and Alcaraz easily climbed to 4-0. He starred in the first two breaks of the match and perfectly defended his first two serves against an Andújar who suffered the physical and moral blows of the intense first set that slipped from him, which he also deserved to win.
Alcaraz repeatedly charged, hitting the ball hard to dominate all exchanges. However, Andújar was able to react in the fifth game, where he was more confident with the serve to make it 4-1. Since then, the pressure has been removed and he has returned to his best game to break Alcaraz’s serve and make it 4-3 with a flawless blank game in his favor.
After three consecutive games from Cuenca, Murcian regained control in the eighth game for 5-3 to take the final blow to the others. And there Andújar was able to delay the result by perfectly defending his serving. But in the following, the tenth, one from El Palmar gave no surprise. With a great repertoire of serves and climbing the net to distribute dropshots, he ended up knocking down his opponent. He signed a blank game to get the pass in the final with 6-4 in 33 minutes.
