Carlos Sainz and Laia Sanz (ACCIONA | SAINZ XE Team) This Sunday they are looking for their first success on the course in the third test of the year at Extreme E. Both are places where ‘The matador’ received a severe blow from Johan Kristofferson who reversed him and had to undergo a hospital check-up as a precaution last Thursday, in the first of two consecutive tests conducted on sardinia.
Carlos clearly complained about the ridiculous punishment the Swede received and this Sunday the ‘morbidity’ they will meet again in the first semifinal, with the car of Chip Ganassi as a luxurious guest in that duel. There, Laia Sainz started in second position just behind the team car Rossberg. Sarah Price (Chip Ganassi) manages to overtake Laia who catches the Catalan pilot. But soon, Price lost control of his vehicle and left the track.
Laia took advantage of that to put herself in second position, though Mikaela Ahlin-Kottulinsky he extended his lead to 11 seconds as they both switched drivers. Sanz and Sainz made a very quick change, but it was useless to win the semifinals. However, the goal was fulfilled, ensuring their presence in the grand final.
In the second semi-final, Sébastien Loeb and Cristina Gutiérrez (Team X44) convincingly defeated the Cupra team, made up of Al-Attiyah and Kleinschmidt, both making it to the grand final with Andretti, winner of the ‘Crazy Race’, the Andretti ensemble, by Timmy Hansen and Munnings.
In the final, however, luck was mixed for the Spaniards. Sainz and Sanz’s car stopped. While Loeb and Gutiérrez made another great race to finish in second position, only Rosberg x Racing surpassed. Genesys Andretti United completed the podium. All this, after a tense outcome: The ABT Cupra team is in the lead but Jutta Kleinschmidt has not properly adjusted his driver replacement belt. Along with his teammate Al-Attiyah they finished second, but were disqualified, giving Andretti third place and fourth place for Carlos Sainz’s Acciona and ACCIONA | SAINZ XE Team.
“We said goodbye to Sardinia with a bittersweet feeling. During the qualifiers and semifinals, we rode at a great pace and showed our potential; we haven’t finished on the podiums yet, but we got to the Finals and we were fourth in a championship near that ”, Carlos said on the team’s social networks.
