Belgium commemorates the 40th anniversary of Heysel’s tragedy

On May 29, 1985, the European Cup final was held at Heysel Stadium, in Brussels, among Liverpool and Juventus soccer teams in Turin. The night became one of the greatest tragedies in this sport history when an avalanche of fans caused Liverpool’s ‘hoolingans’ an hour before the initial beep killed 39 people, of which 34 Juve fans, two Belgians, two French and a British, in addition to the 600 -out 600.

Despite the tragedy, UEFA decided an hour and a half after the final played, which ended on the edge of Juventus 1-0 thanks to a goal of French Michel Platini. The facts that the UEFA and FIFA are ordered to take steps to change security patterns in stadiums, such as removing security fences, are required to install chairs and make access controls more strict, in addition to separating hobbies inside the stadium.
