Catalan’s football philosophy threw roots in Central America and played an important role in the current mic edition of the Mic held at Punta Cana (Dominican Republic). FC Academy Catala, a regular of this popular contest, will participate in the competition but five teams have emerged from Puerto Rico.
The project was led by Xavi Mondelo, who worked for 12 years for FC Barcelona on various international projects in Japan, Korea or China until he started directing all Barca Club academics in America.
Working with Puerot Rico, he decided to start a new football project called the Catala FC Academy currently with academics not only in Puerto Rico but also El Salvador and Miami. “This is a way to start a international, professional project, which serves for Puerto Rico, El Salvador and Miami to compete,” Mondelo explained.
Since last Wednesday, five teams have participated in Mic Punta Cana with players formed in Puerto Rico and the United States.
