Three voluntary members of the Real Club de Regatas de Cartagena (RCR) will take over the provisional manager of these sports facilities located next to the cruise terminal from 18 June. José García-Bravo’s previous board of directors decided to resign almost a month ago after a final meeting in May where the expected “support” was not received.
The Cartagena RCR is opening an election process for its more than 800 members to come forward and form a new board of directors. The application deadline starts on Thursday 21 and ends on Wednesday 27. That is the deadline to assemble groups to run this facility, which, in addition to its sports career, has always advocated getting closer to other citizens.
In this scenario, there are at least two people who have been interested or are considering taking the plunge. They are Gabriel Lopez Escobar and Alberto Moreno Pelluz. From Thursday 21, the Electoral Council will analyze and validate the possible applications that come in.
The already old board of directors has been led by José García-Bravo since October 2016. In an open letter to the partners, dated June 18, this engineer and associate professor of Telecommunications at the Polytechnic University (UPCT) states: “After the last meeting, it is believed that, with the same serenity with which we arrived, without fanfare and without tension, it’s time for others to lead the journey into calm seas with wind in our favor.”
In an interview with LA VERDAD in 2017, García-Bravo recalled that the economic situation of the Cartagena RCR was “delicate” and that the aim was to increase its membership, attract young people and “integrate it into the rest of the the society of the region of Murcia Concerts, a variety of nautical activities and regattas were some of the activities during this time. The facility has about 400 berths in the marina.
