Barry McGuigan appeared on The Late Late Show before joining the Charlie Byrd Charitable Foundation, which will see him and countless others join RTE legend Croagh Patrick in tomorrow’s bright and early climb.
The scale helps treat both motor neuron diseases and Beta House and has already raised more than 1 million euros.
The Clones Cyclone spoke to Ryan Tubrid, who also plans to hike, about how his tragic daughter Danica inspires him to take part in a rather difficult climb in poor condition.
He explained, “I want to do it mainly because of Charlie.
“Then you do it for your personal business, so I want to dedicate it to my daughter, who I lost nearly three years ago.
“And that’s good for your soul and for Vicki Phelan and Charlie, it’s great and I want to be by their side.”
Unfortunately, for Barry and his family, the death of his daughter at the age of 33 isn’t the only tragedy that has befallen them.
He also recalled how his brother committed suicide at the age of 34 and his father died at the age of 52.
Like Nika, Barry and Sharon died of cancer in 2020.
He added, “We are all sad about some problems.
“We are losing all of our family, but tomorrow will be our day to exercise our right to cry for our pain simply by walking up and down that hill.”
The strong emotions shocked the audience, who burst into tears as they watched from the sofa, the Irish newspaper Mirror reported.
Paul wrote: “Totally heartbroken, when you watch #BarryMcGuigan, Christ is going to break your heart.”
Bryan added, “I love Barry McGuigan. He has a heart on the name.”
Lindsey commented, “My heart aches with Barry McGuigan every time I hear him speak. You can feel his pain in his words.”
Cole tweeted: “What a great guy Barry McGuigan.
“A great approach who has gone through so many things in such a short time. She really sets the record straight.”
Finally, Noel said: “I feel so much like Barry McGuigan — on the verge of a breakdown.
“So much suffering for any family in the past three years. Very exciting #LateLateShow tonight.”
