The Argentine and former Newcastle footballer, among others, overcame the disease diagnosed in 2013. After a year of recovery, he returned to the pitch and scored the decisive goal that gave Newcastle permanent Premier League.

He announced in October 2002 that he had testicular cancer. The former goalkeeper of Atlético de Madrid and Deportivo de la Coruña, among others, a full -fledged international in Spain, has recovered after undergoing three months of treatment with chemotherapy sessions. The goalkeeper wore shorts again and defended the goal for the A Coruña team.

He suffered from cancer twice, both testicular. First in 2005, when he had just signed for Elche. After this was surpassed, in 2007, at a regular check-up, another tumor was found again in the same area. He overcame it again to continue playing in the First Division with Tenerife.

On December 23, 2016, a few months after his Athletic debut, the Atletico center-back announced that he was suffering from a testicular tumor. He reappeared on the pitch nearly two months later, but suffered a comeback the same year in May. And he had to face chemotherapy.
