The 11 most expensive signings in Bayern history

The Dutch centre-back Matthijs De Ligt (22 years old) is the fourth signing of this summer market by Bayern Munich and the second most expensive in its entire history. As reported by Juventus, the transfer could reach 77 million euros, between 67 fixed and 10 in variables. A figure surpassed only by the 80 million euros the Bavarian club paid in 2019 for Lucas Hernandez. This is Bayern’s eleventh most expensive signing in its entire history, according to data from Transfermarkt.

Nothing more and nothing less than 80 million euros, his release clause, Bayern Munich paid in 2019 to sign the then 23-year-old Atlético de Madrid defender. Injuries, as well as problems outside of sports, cost him, especially in his first days in the Bavarian team, but gradually it became more important.

Also in 2019, Juventus signed De Ligt from Ajax for €85.5 million. Almost 20 million less (not counting variables), Bayern is now paying for the Dutch central defender, who despite being important in his three years in Turin, has not fully met all expectations. Signed until 2027.

After leaving Schalke 04 in 2016 to sign for City, the German winger returned to the Bundesliga in 2020 at the age of 24 after Bayern paid 60 million euros for him. At the Allianz Arena, he continued to show his great quality, with overflow, goals and quality.

Ten years have passed since Bayern paid the 40 million termination clause to sign Javi Martínez from Athletic. The versatile Navarrese midfielder played for nine seasons at the Bavarian club, where he suffered a number of serious injuries that prevented him from playing more regularly despite being a key piece. He left in 2021 for Qatar.

After losing the final in Berlin in 2015 against Barça, Arturo Vidal left Juventus to sign for Bayern for around 40 million euros. During his three seasons at the Allianz Arena, the Chilean midfielder was a key player alongside Guardiola, Ancelotti and Heynckes, before landing at the Camp Nou for 18 million.

Mario Gotze (B. Dortmund)

In 2013, Götze’s move from Dortmund to Bayern was one of the big hits of the summer. At 21 years old, the talented midfielder arrived at the Bavarian club with the highest expectations, but despite fulfilling his first season, his performance was clearly from more to less and the result of his signing was completely disappointing, returned three years later to Dortmund for almost half (22 million) of the amount (37). This summer he signed for Eintracht from PSV.

One from Hummels is one of the many players who have signed for Bayern in recent years after succeeding at Dortmund. In 2016, the Bavarian club paid 35 million euros but with the arrival of other reinforcements for the axis of defense such as Lucas Hernández or Süle, he decided to return to Dortmund after three seasons, paying just over 30 million to bring him back .
