Gervonta Davis regained his knockout power and retained him World Boxing Association world lightweight title on Saturday night after the knock out Roland Romero in the sixth round. Davis landed a stern left hand near the corner and Romero fell off the ropes. He struggled and got up but stumbled and was dismissed by referee David Fields.
Davis seems to have hurt his left hand with a blow in the fifth round, but had no difficulty continuing. Romero lost for the first time in fifteen professional fights.
It was an electrifying finale to the return of boxing in a big way in Brooklyn, where Davis won his first title in 2017. 18,970 spectators attended the first fight since before the pandemic in the city.
The duel between Davis and Romero was scheduled for December, but Romero was removed from the card while a sexual assault claim against him was investigated. Davis faced and won Isaac Cruz. The fight was rescheduled after no charges were filed against Romero.
