The swimmer from Alums, 16 years old and from the CN Cartagonova-Cartagena, wins gold in the 1,500 free and takes two silver medals in 400 and 800
Alumni swimmer Paula Villada (16) has played an outstanding role in the Spanish Summer Swimming Championships, which were held in Sabadell and concluded yesterday. She has been one of the most outstanding swimmers, taking up to three medals, two silver and one gold.
The first medal he received was gold. He won it in his fetish test, the 1,500 free metre. In it, he reaffirmed his title he had won in the same Catalan city last summer, although he competed as a cadet. This time as a junior, in the 16-year-old category, she was able to beat all her competitors and set a time of 17:11.25, ahead of María del Gador Luque and Susana Martínez Rayos.
To this huge result, he managed to add two silver medals, in the 400-meter freestyle and in the 800-meter freestyle. In the first of the tests, the young woman set a time of 4:27.53 and was surpassed only by Xenia Torrejón, of CN Caldes. Third place on the podium was taken by Aina Fernández, from CN Banyoles. The CN Cartagonova-Cartagena swimmer was very confident throughout the final and set the second fastest time in each of the laps from the start. He was far from the champion, but with great solvency was in second place.
Finally, he won his third medal last Saturday, in the 800 free meters. Aína Fernández outperformed him by just one second. A little further from her, two seconds away, was María del Gador Luque.
CN Cartagonova-Cartagena was sixth in this championship in the junior men’s category, with 157 overall points, and seventh in the junior women’s category, with 120, having contested 26 of the 37 scheduled events. Marcelino Jiménez, also of the Cartagena club, won the silver medal in the 200 free in the 17-year-olds, while Ángel Ruiz was the same distance bronze in the 18-year-olds. The stats were ultimately led in both categories by CD Gredos San Diego, a team from Madrid.
Juan Pedro Torralba, councilor of the city council of Cartagena, congratulated the young woman from Alumbres. “Paula Villada continues to win the Spanish Summer Championship. You are an example that effort has its reward,” he said on his Twitter account.
