Date:

the norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen bounced back from his 1,500 defeat to Britain’s Jake Wightman with a fine display in the final of 5,000 of the Eugene World Cupswhich he controlled within the last 900 meters.

The 1,500m Olympic champion took the lead at that point and changed his pace to pull away from his rivals as he neared the finish line.

Ingebrigtsen covered the last thousand in 2:23 and won with a time of 13:09.24followed by another Jacob, the Kenyan Krop (13:09.98)and from Ugandan Oscar Chelimo (13:10.20)while Guatemalan Luis Grijalva, as brave as the first round, reached fourth, 24 hundredths from the bronze medal.

A week after winning the gold medal in the 10,000 meters, the Ugandan Olympic champion Joshua Cheptegei at 5,000 he faced the chance to finish the world with double the funding, but he was always poorly placed and in the last lap he had nothing left. He finished ninth, still four places ahead of the champion of the previous two editions, Ethiopian Muktar Edriss.

Cheptegei, world record holder, took the lead on the first lap after the first attempt by “dreamer” Luis Grijalva. He covered the first thousand in 2:36.58 with a plan to punish the legs of Ingebrigtsena man from 3:28.32 in 1,500 who went to Calle 5 to get a drink at the refreshment table.

Before the end of the second km, the Kenyans took the lead of the group although they did not get the pace. The Norwegian ran to the outside, ready to go on any attack, and put himself in the lead with 900 from the end. From there, to the finish line, act with good solvency. No one risked his success.
