Liverpool lost their last friendly match against RB Salzburg (1-0) before facing the first big pulse of the season against Manchester City on Saturday in Leicester with the Community Shield at stake. Benjamin Sesko scored the only goal at Red Bull Arena in the 31st minute.
Jürgen Klopp, manager of Liverpool, lined up an eleven with many substitutes formed by Adrián; Mabaya, Joe Gomez, Konate, Milner; Keita, Bajcetic, Curtis Jones; Elliott, Darwin Nunez, and Fabio Carvalho. After the break Firmino, Robertson and Morton came on and, in the 60th minute, starters Alexander-Arnold, Salah, Van Dijk, Matip, Fabinho, Luis Díaz, Thiago Alcantara and Henderson did it.
Alisson and Diogo Jota, out
Goalkeeper Alisson missed the game with a stomach injury but Klopp hopes to have him back against City, while Diogo Jota, KO since June 30, is out on Saturday.
Liverpool’s star signing Darwin Núñez had several chances in the first half before being substituted at half-time, but Salzburg were dangerous and Sesko scored after combining with Noah Okafor.
In the second half, already in their cracks, Liverpool only attacked but the goal was denied and they received their second defeat after starting the summer with 4-0 against Manchester United. They then beat Crystal Palace (2-0) and Leipzig (0-5)
