Corinne Diacre missed out on the Women’s European Championship that ended on Sunday with England’s victory, but the French Football Federation has rewarded her team leader by extending her contract until 2024, the Gallic governing body announced today football.
Following this vote of confidence, Diacre, 47, will continue to lead France’s team at the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand in 2023, as well as the 2024 Paris Olympics.
“I am happy and proud to continue the adventure with the France team for these two additional seasons,” Diacre, who took over in 2017, said in a French Federation statement.
The first international title, the goal
“Despite the disappointment of losing in the semi-finals, the Euros were encouraging and I am pleased to have the opportunity to continue working with this group in the hope of winning the team’s first title…first at the World Cup and then at the Olympics in front of our audience,” added Diacre.
France, which has not won any international title in its entire history, is one step away from the final of the European Championship by losing in the semifinals against Germany (2-1). Despite this, it was the best classification obtained by the wanderers in the continental tournament, hence the decision to renew the Diacre.
