Alpine the Australian pilot was made official on Tuesday Oscar Piastri21 years old, in lieu of Spanish Fernando Alonso (41) and new French partner Stephen Ocon (25) in 2023 F1 World Cup.
The French team immediately reacted to the communication by Aston-Martin of his signing Alonso for next season to cover the departure of the German and four-time world champion Sebastian Vettelwhose withdrawal announcement last week sparked speculation about the future of the Asturian pilot, two-time world champion with Renault (2005, 2006).
In just 24 hours, Alpine has made official its starting partner for the 2023 season, a commitment to two young drivers. Piastri is in Alpine Academy and the following year he went from reserve driver to regular driver, the chance any youngster wants to prove his worth in the most important championship in the motor world, F1.
Piastri will arrive at the F-1 World Championship backed by good results in the promotion’s other competitions, such as his three consecutive titles between 2019 and 2021, the Formula Renault EurocupThe Formula 3 and the Formula 2.
“After four years as part of the Renault and Alpine family, our reserve driver Oscar Piastri has been promoted and will occupy an official seat alongside Esteban Ocon from 2023,” Alpine’s statement said.
