The former president of the Real Club de Regatas de Cartagena, José García-Bravo, officially announced his resignation on June 18 in an open letter to members. In it, he invites other candidates “to lead the journey into calm seas with favorable winds”, after a final meeting where, according to other sources, there was a certain “tension” and the points of the day were not discussed. One of them considered the possibility of increasing the membership dues, in order to promote the “growth” of the RCRC in the future. García-Bravo’s term ended in 2024.
García-Bravo, an engineer from a seafaring family, a Repsol employee and an associate professor of Telecommunications, accepted the position in 2016 with the aim of opening up the RCRC to the rest of Cartagena society. “Many things have been done that can fill us with satisfaction, an idea that colleagues often pass on to us and encourage us to continue,” the president wrote in the suicide note. A board of directors keeps the reins until the new board comes out next Saturday.
