British-born Thai driver Alex Albon has renewed with Williams after agreeing a “multi-year contract” with Grove, the Formula One team reported on Wednesday.

Albon joined Williams this season as a replacement for George Russell after Red Bull released him from his reserve driver contract. The Thai driver achieved a series of good results, he collected all the team’s points this season thanks to a tenth place in Australia and a ninth in Miami.
“I’m excited to be staying with Williams Racing for 2023 and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve as a team for the rest of this season and next year,” said Albon.
“The team has made some strong strides this year and it’s exciting to continue this journey and continue to build on what we’ve learned together.”

Team Principal Jost Capito added: “Alex is an excellent driver and a valued member of Williams Racing so we are delighted to confirm that we will be working with him for the long term. Alex brings a great mix of skills and learnings that will help the team to be more successful in the future.
“He is a fierce competitor, a proven popular and loyal member of the team and we are delighted that he is giving us a solid base to further develop into the new era of F1 cars.”
It is still unclear who will be Albon’s partner next year at Williams, as Canadian Nicholas Latifi’s contract expires at the end of this season and there is no word on this in the statement.
News of Albon’s renewal comes in the middle of a ‘silly season’, two days after Aston Martin announced that Fernando Alonso will drive for the team next season and a day after Alpine named Oscar Piastri as a replacement of the Spaniard and two hours later the young Australian driver denied the news on his social networks, also declaring that he will not drive for the French team in 2023.
