After the accident in Tyrol – a plane crash on the roof: now the first consequences

Date:

After the spectacular plane crash on the roof of a house in Höfen in the Ausserfern region of Tyrol on Sunday afternoon, the exact cause could still not be clarified. The entire investigation could take weeks, it said Wednesday afternoon. But the first consequences are already there: in addition to the temporary take-off and landing stop for motorized aircraft, the entire situation at the local airport is now being scrutinized. In addition, in the future, take-off and landing will only be possible in one direction.

A completely destroyed roof, a field of rubble in the bedroom: one can rightly speak of thousands of guardian angels that the residents of the parental home were not at home on Sunday. At exactly 3.17 pm, the Cessna, which had just taken off from the airport in Höfen, crashed into the residential area. Directly on the roof of the house. The small plane hit like a bomb.

The occupants, a pair of doctors (aged 54 and 56) from Baden-Württemberg, Germany, suffered serious injuries. You broke your hip, the woman also suffered an open fracture of the leg. Both victims would respond.

Take-off and landing only towards Lechtal
It was already known on Tuesday that the operator had initially closed the small airport to motorized aircraft. On Wednesday afternoon, the state reported that “in the interest of safety and until the cause of the accident is finally clarified, the aviation authority’s expert has recommended in an initial statement that takeoffs and landings should only be made in the direction of the Lechtal until final clarification” .

The cause of the accident has been clarified by the public prosecutor and the aviation accident committee. The expert appointed by the aviation authority was also tasked with “closely monitoring and evaluating the obstacle situation and processes at Höfen Airport in the coming days and weeks”.

Traveling on the wrong flight path
The only thing that is currently fixed is that the Cessna was on the wrong flight path. The pilot did not fly in the direction of Reutte over the Lechauen as instructed, but turned left in the direction of the settlement area.

Residents stayed with neighbors
In any case, the demolished house is currently uninhabitable. The residents now stay with neighbors. It is not yet clear when those affected will be able to move in again.
