On his way to bathe at the Traunfall in Roitham (Gmunden district of Upper Austria), a 20-year-old fell 15 meters on Wednesday. She wanted to go to the banks of the Traun with a 21-year-old friend. Both took shortcuts over unsecured terrain – probably not a good idea.
A 20-year-old from the Rohrbach district and a 21-year-old from the Grieskirchen district visited the so-called Traunfall in Roitham on Wednesday. They already saw several swimmers on the banks of the Traun. To get there too, they found a way through rough terrain to get to the coast. After leaving the safe path, they climbed several meters down very steep and unsecured terrain.
Injury stayed
Since the 21-year-old didn’t dare to go any further, her friend continued. Suddenly, the 20-year-old fell some 15 meters down the steep terrain on the banks of the Traun and was left lying there with injuries on a concrete foundation. The 21-year-old was tied up over the steep terrain by an alpine police officer from Gmunden Police Station and handed over to the fire brigade and water rescue service waiting below.
The supplies took over the rescue. The fallen 20-year-old received first aid from the emergency doctor of the rescue helicopter “Martin 3” and was flown to the Salzkammergut Klinikum Vöcklabruck.
