The latest addition to the animal shelter in Vösendorf, Mödling district, is a fox cub. And it’s a real adventure story of how the little one got there. Because the baby fox was recently discovered in a retirement home in Liesing – in the bed of an elderly resident!
The older woman may have found the young fox orphaned and weakened. Apparently, the puppy immediately won the animal-loving woman’s heart, so she decided to shelter him in her room. Naturally, the little forest dweller’s unusual sleeping position did not go unnoticed – and so the experts at the nearby animal shelter were called in to help.
“He wouldn’t have survived alone”
Head of the animal shelter Stephan Scheidl explains: “It’s certainly good that the little fox was discovered in time. At his age, he just wouldn’t have survived for long.” In Vösendorf he is now being cared for by trained animal caretakers. Scheidl: “As soon as he is big enough, we will see if the fox can be released into the wild.” with the baby fox. But for his well-being, it is best if he is cared for by experienced professionals. One must not forget that it is a wild animal.”
Finally, Scheidl has an important tip ready: if you find a wild animal in an unfamiliar environment, contact specialized organizations such as the animal shelter immediately.
