Black money accepted – EU scared: Kaili’s partner gives in

Date:

Afraid of the EU corruption scandal: the partner of deposed EU Vice President Eva Kaili has made an extensive confession. Italian Francesco Giorgi admitted to investigators that he had taken black money from the Gulf Emirate of Qatar.

Giorgi also admitted to being part of an organization used by Morocco and Qatar to interfere and influence European affairs. His job was to manage cash.

Partner accused other MPs
According to the Roman daily La Repubblica, Giorgi has also hinted that he suspects Andrea Cozzolino and Marc Tarabella, both S&D MEPs, of taking money through former Italian MEP Antonio Panzeri.

Morocco is said to be involved in the alleged bribery affair through its external information service Dged. “La Repubblica” was allowed to see the documents. This shows that Panzeri, Cozzolino and Giorgi were in contact with the Dged and Abderrahim Atmoun, the Moroccan ambassador to Poland.

Italian EU politician in the picture
The Panzeris network is central to the investigations of the Belgian judiciary. For many years he was a member of the social democratic Partito Democratico (PD), currently the strongest opposition party in Italy. In 2017, he switched to the party of former Italian communist leader and former Prime Minister Massimo D’Alema, Articolo 1, but remained in the European Parliament in the Social Democrats group.

The Brussels public prosecutor’s office is certain that Panzeri pulled the strings when it came to influencing political and economic decisions of the EU parliament in favor of states such as Qatar or Morocco.

Money distributed from Qatar?
The focus is on the NGO organization “Fight Impunity”, founded by Panzeri after he left the EU Parliament in 2019. He allegedly distributed the money from Qatar to influence parliamentary decisions in favor of the emirate.

Panzeri is in custody and his wife and daughter have also been arrested. Luca Visentini, secretary-general of the International Trade Union Confederation, who had hailed Qatar’s labor market reforms as a “success story” and is also involved in the affair, was released on Sunday under conditions. In an October 25 interview, Visentini praised Qatar as a reform-oriented country.
